Lindsay Marshall
Dr. Lindsay Marshall is a shark scientist, shark fin ID specialist and natural history artist. She is the sole artist for the Chondrichthyan Tree of Life project (sharksrays.org) for which she has painted every species of Chondrichthyan fish (more than 1200 species). This was the first time in over 100 years that an artist has painted a vertebrate class in its entirety. Lindsay has also illustrated the much-anticipated ‘Rays of the World’ book (CSIRO Press), which was released in 2016. In addition to being a skilled artist, Lindsay is also a shark scientist. She's a published taxonomist and has expertise in shark morphology as well as fisheries science. In 2016 she also published an ID guide to shark fins with the FAO (World Food and Agriculture Organisation) that is hoped to aid the management and conservation effort surrounding the illegal shark fin trade.
