Asia O Armstrong
Dr Asia Haines is an Australian marine scientist with a passion for the conservation of threatened species, especially sharks and rays. Asia is a Research Fellow at the University of the Sunshine Coast, working across the Leaf to Reef and Project Manta research projects. For Leaf to Reef, one of her key roles is monitoring and cataloguing biodiversity around Lady Elliot Island. For Project Manta, she serves as the Project Manager and Principal Scientist. She is also the Executive Officer of the recently established Manta Foundation. Asia works for the IUCN Shark Specialist Group on their Important Shark and Ray Area project to assist with identifying and mapping critical habitats for sharks and rays, bridging the gap between research and conservation. Her interests lie in improving our understanding of threatened species movements, habitat selection and use, and examining the threats facing these animals, with the view to advancing their conservation.
