George Giatas

George is a fish ecologist in the Inland Waters and Catchment Ecology Program at the South Australian Research and Development Institute (Aquatic and Livestock Sciences). He has undertaken freshwater and estuarine fish monitoring and research projects in the Lower Murray River and the Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth region for over ten years. He has experience in leading field-based ecological monitoring and research and has played key roles in the Lower Murray Area for the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder’s Long-Term Intervention Monitoring and Flow-Monitoring, Evaluation and Research projects. Current areas of research include feeding and trophic ecology, ecological responses to environmental flows, and fish condition and intervention monitoring. Ultimately, this research aims to support aquatic ecosystem management, including the management of fisheries.
